Therapy Sessions | Dr. Samia Khan

What Happens In Therapy

What happens in therapy can change everything.

It’s not a chat — it’s a structured, evidence-based conversation designed to rewire the way you think, feel, and live.

Every session is a 75-minute intervention grounded in neuroscience, psychotherapy, and the art of human connection.

Regulation replaces chaos. Understanding replaces confusion. Your nervous system learns safety again.

The Therapeutic Arc

Each session follows a micro-arc of change: from grounding the body, to exploring the psyche, to integrating new patterns into daily life.

  1. 1

    Grounding & Connection

    Somatic regulation, affective attunement

Brief centering (e.g., paced breathing) to bring the system into safety.

  2. 2

    Exploration & Insight

    Psychodynamic inquiry, CBT reframing

Mapping patterns, beliefs, and emotions to lived experience.

  3. 3

    Integration & Plan

    Behavioral alignment, reflective consolidation

Leaving with tools, prompts, and a direction till the next session

Frequently asked questions

Short, clear answers. Grounded in ethics and confidentiality.

What if I don’t know what to say?

Therapy begins wherever you are. Silence is information — often where unconscious material surfaces.

How long is a session and how often?

60 minutes. Weekly or bi-weekly is typical, adjusted to your goals.

Do I need to take more than one session?

One session may be enough for you, or you may benefit from a short series (e.g., six). You’ll co-create a personalized plan with Dr. Samia Khan in your first session.

Will I be given medicine?

No. Only psychiatric cases meeting diagnostic criteria (DSM-5) may be prescribed medication and dosage. The dosage must not be changed by the client without consulting Dr. Samia Khan.

My parents don't support therapy. What do I do?

If you are between 16–22, you can provide your Student Card to receive a 20% discount on online therapy sessions. If diagnosed with a psychiatric condition, you will not be prescribed medication without parental consent.

You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin.

The first session is intake and formulation — where awareness starts and resistance ends.
